Mansfield Town 3-1 Walsall FC

Tuesday 28th July - pre-season friendly at Field Mill ....

The 39 travelling Walsall fans must have wondered what had hit them after the Stags had a cruised to 3-0 lead in just 32 minutes.

A disappointing turn out of just over 1700, but those Stags fans who had made the effort saw their team take apart League One outfit Walsall.

Now, I have no idea of the strength of team Chris Hutchins put out, but an OG by no. 5 Mark Hughes after a superb run and cross by Kyle Perry caught the defender facing his goal - he slid in at the near post to give the home team a 7th minute lead. The Saddlers lined up with big Sam Parkin up front, but Luke Jones and our MOM Scott Garner coped admirably and were seldom troubled in the first half.

The Stags went 2-0 up on 17 when a free-kick from the right was nodded home by Luke Jones. Louis Briscoe added the third in the 32nd minute a superd diving header at the nearpost from a Rob Duffy cross. H-T 3-0

What a half - Stags played really well and looked good in every department.

Walsall scored just 20 seconds after the restart - Peter Till's effort beating Marriott and surprising everyone, but the
Stags soon regained their composure and apart from a decent save from a Parkin shot, Marriott was having a relatively quiet time.

It was that comfortable for the Stags that Manager David Holdsworth made 8 changes - leaving just Garner, Gardner and Marriott from the original starting eleven. Great to see Kyle Nix - last I heard he was stretchered off at Newport.

Anyway, full reports will appear on several websites, so I will not go into any more detail. F-T 3-1

All four goals in the North Stand net -- we were in the South Stand -- typical!!!!
