Kirkby Town 1-2 Mansfield Town Youth Team

Our first visit to the Summit Centre Complex, and very enjoyable it was too..

Arrived just before kick off and struggled to find a space to park - but a grass verge looked inviting so had a tootle round and ended up in a prime spot for a quick exit.

We know very little about KIrkby Town and even less about the Stags youngsters - but both teams played really well and gave the crowd of 300 a decent bit of pre-season entertainment.

Stags took the lead on 44, a superb drive from Nick Langford from the edge of the box beating Kirkby keeper Paul Stanhope. H-T 0-1

It was Langford who netted the Stags' second on 63, this time a delicate chip over Stanhope from the edge of the box bringing out some well deserved applause.

Kirkby never gave up and after hitting the woodwork and then forcing the Stags' keeper to give away a corner, Carl Haslam popped up at the far post to nod home. Both teams were very competitive, and one or two words from
the Referee were needed at times to calm things down.

Nice sunny evening - had a nice chat to Fredkirkbytown and caught up with the CML's Rob Hornby. Pleased to see him again after fears that illness during the close season may slow him down a little!! All in all a very nice evening in a very pleasant setting.
