Carlton Town 3-2 Wrexham

Our latest pre-season outing took us to Stoke Lane, home of UniBond Division One South team Carlton Town.

Advertised as a 7:45 kick-off, we arrived just after 7:30 to hear Referee Michael Leslie blow his whistle to start the game....... we missed about a minute of the game, but others were still coming through the turnstile at 7:40pm!

Bit of a tight squeeze in the car-park, but found a decent spot near the Wrexham team bus - no danger of anyone blocking me in.

Wrexham fielded a reserve/second string for the first half, and Carlton took full advantage playing their visitors off the park. The home team took the lead on 25, a cracking 20 yard free-kick from Martin Ball planted accurately into the top of keeper Chris Maxwell's net. It was 2-0 to the home team 5 minutes before the break, a superb right-foot effort from Aiden Brady from almost 30 yards out that curled into the top corner giving the keeper no chance..........H-T 2-0

Dean Saunders changed all 10 outfield players at the break, starting the half with what was basically his first team and keeping his promise to Carlton that he would bring a strong squad to Nottingham.

Adrian Cierlewicz reduced the visitors' arrears on 52, beating Grant Brindley to the ball before slotting past Ali Barcharini. The home defence had to absorb a lot of pressure as the Dragons poured forward in search of the equaliser - but it was the visitors who went further ahead when Tristram Whitman fired home on 43. Adrian Cierlewicz made it 3-2 seconds later, beating his maker to the ball before sliding the ball under Barcharini. F-T 3-2

Report from Wrexham site

New Carlton players on show included Craig Swinscoe, Paul Mitchell, Justin Jenkins and Danny Moore.
