Hucknall Town 3-1 Worksop Town

Tuesday 9th February 2010 - UniBond Premier Division
Hucknall boss Danny Bryant has to be very pleased that his team were able to build on the tremendous win at Stocksbridge on Saturday. The Yellows gained another three points and put in a great performance to give Bryant a dream start to his Managerial career at Watnall Road.
Teams :

Hucknall Town - Haystead, Boafo, Walters, Meikle (c), Shiels, Hawes, Hawkridge, O'Brien, Nightingale, Whiitington, Wiggins-Thomas. Subs: Kelly, Wilson, Bonnick, Smedley, Newbold

Worksop - Kennedy, Austin R, Burley, Bacon, Lowe, Davis (c), Glass, Austin M, Tomlinson, Adam, Townshend. Subs White, Glarvey, Ward, Chapman
Made the short trip to Watnall Road - Kev had wrapped up well, looking a little like the Michelin Man....I just put an extra t-shirt on.....guess who was the coldest? Blimey, it was a bit parky - and the slight breeze cut into you like a knife. Proper football weather!
Hucknall took the lead on 14 when great interplay play down the right wing between Dave Boafo and Rueben Wiggins-Thomas lead to the ball being crossed into the area. As the defence hesitated DEON MEIKLE was left on his own and the home skipper made no mistake, tapping in from 6 yards.
On 20, a superb free-kick by Terry Hawkridge was met on the volley by Adrian Hawes, but the centre-back saw his effort fly just past the post. Home keeper Danny Haystead had little to do in the first half hour or so, but he was alert enough on 34 to fingertip a fierce drive wide of his goal. The Yellows doubled their lead after 44 minutes, and a real class effort it was too.
As Hucknall cleared their lines, the ball was played out to Hawkridge on the half-way line - the tricky winger controlled, turned and set off towards the Worksop goal. T J NIGHTINGALE had kept up with play and when Hawkridge picked him out with a pin-point pass, the striker hammered the ball past Kennedy from just inside the penalty area. H-T 2-0
Hawridge almost added a third on 48, but his well struck free-kick was tipped over the bar by Kennedy. Nightingale saw his glancing header from a corner cleared off the line on 67, and as the visitors played the ball out of defence Hucknall failed to deal with a ball down the line and were forced to give away a corner. The ball in was missed by the home defenders leaving BEN TOMLINSON a simple task of prodding home from 8 yards.
With 10 minutes to go it was all over. A free-kick from Hawkidge was, for some strange reason, left by Kennedy. The ball canonned of the foot of the post and fell straight to the waiting ADRIAN HAWES who had the simple task of tapping home. Lord knows what the keeper was thinking, but it has to be said that the free-kick from Hawkridge was, yet again, superb. F-T 3-1

Had a chat with Eastwood Town Boss Paul Cox at half-time - not had a chance to talk to Coxy properly for a while .. not his fault, just not been to watch the Badgers in action so far this season..He was with Hucknall's Lee Stevenson who had not been selected for the game. Then met up with physio extra-ordinaire Fred Kirk before deciding to get back under cover and out of the biting wind....
