.......our game of choice was Hucknall Tn v Worksop Tn, but I received a text message from Yellows' boss Danny Bryant at 1:30pm telling me the game had been called off. Plan B - our original game was to have been Kimberley Tn v Harworth CI - so I called the Town Chairman Graeme Critchley at about 2:00pm and was informed the game was on at that moment in time. So, at 2:35pm, off we went to the Stag ground.
As soon as we arrived we knew the game was off - no cars in the car-park gave us a big clue!!! Kev drove into the ground and we were greeted by Mr. Critchley who informed us that the game had been called off at 2:30pm. He gave me a programme anway!!
No plan C - so we were undecided what to do, and Kev was smarting from the Florists losing at Pride Park....could we get to watch Arnold in time?? After a few minutes of indecision, Kev had a moment of inspiration. Hucknall Rolls v Bilborough Pelican 2nd half. Why not? -- it's free and saves writing off the whole afternoon.
Great call by Mr. Goodman, because although advertised as a 2pm kick off, the game hadn't actually kicked off until 2:30pm, so we managed to catch the back end of the first half. Bonus no. 1!
Bonus no. 2... Hucknall Rolls Reserves were playing Bulwell Reserves, so we ended up with two games to watch....
Bonus no. 3 ... ace freelance photographer Dan Westwell was still present at the game ( he was due to do 1/2 of the Rolls game and then move up the road to see the Hucknall v Worksop game). I have known Dan for a long time (we used to travel on the supporters coach to Mansfield Town away games years ago), but have never had the chance to spend any quality time in his company....had a great chat about this and that, and it has to be said, the hour or so flew by.... the games weren't bad either.
Hucknall Rolls Leisure 3-2 Bilborough Pelican -- Notts Senior League Senior Division.
Arrived with score at 1-1, and after a very nice cup of coffee, we were treated to three more goals.
Firstly Rolls went ahead when their 10 shirt ran at goal unchallenged and slotted past the visiting keeper. It was 2-2 soon after when Pelican's no. 10 tapped home from close range after being left alone in the 6 yard box. Less than a minute later Rolls went ahead again - this time the 9 jacket tapping in at the far post after a wayward shot from the left somehow found it's way to him....
Hucknall Rolls Leisure Res 2-2 Bulwell Res - NSL Division 2.
It was also 1-1 on the other pitch when we arrived with 8 minutes of the second half gone, then Bulwell went in front. It took a great own goal from Bulwell to get Rolls level - the game ending up at 2-2..
So - we missed our scheduled games, but still got over 90 minutes of football in!!
