Mansfield Town 4-0 Chester City

Saturday 23rd January 2010 -- Blue Square Premier

This took us back to September/October when the Stags were playing well and scoring freely.....the strange thing is that the majority of players in the team v Chester were at Field Mill and in that team early in the season - while some of the newer signings were on the bench, leaving one to wonder why David Holdsworth keeps bringing in new faces when the old ones are quite capable of doing their jobs. Welcome return at left back for Craig Armstrong who combined really well with left wing maestro Ryan Williams .....great to watch.

Luke Foster looked calm and collected on debut alongside Luke Jones in the centre of the defence, while Jake Speight has surely at last given manager David Holdsworth no choice other than to recognise what a player he is, and has maybe earned the right to start every game.

The first 20 minutes were all played in the Chester half, and the constant pressure paid off when a superb corner from the left was nodded home at the near post by LUKE JONES. Just as Kev was praising the visiting defence, they failed to pick up Jones leaving him on his own - he made no mistake from close range.

JONES scored the second Stags goal in the 33rd minute - this time a well placed header from a Williams corner from the right. Two minutes later it was 3-0. Another Williams corner from the right was headed by Luke Foster straight at Chester keeper John Danby, but his parry fell to JAKE SPEIGHT who rifled the ball into the net. H-T 3-0

Constant pressure in the second half, but the home team only managed one more goal, SPEIGHT again firing past Danby after he was played in by strike partner Kyle Perry. F-T 4-0
